Sustainability of The Use of Wind Energy to Generate Electricity

Ajoko Tolumoye John , Ogbonnaya Ezenwa Alfred

Abstract: The prominence and sustainability of energy generation is a target phenomenon for techno-industrial and socio-economic welfare of any developing country. Hence, the presentation of this paper is geared towards generating sustainable energy through wind renewable energy resources. However, this will be done successfully with a careful analysis of wind availability. In view of this, study was carried out with the help of meteorological data gathered in the weather house of Niger Delta University (NDU), between the periods of 2010 to 2015. The following achieved results confirms maximum average wind speed of 23.5ms-1 at 6am and 2pm for January and October respestively while 19.1ms-1 at 3am for August all in year 2010. Other vital and similar results are presented. Established results confirm the availability and sustainability of wind energy in generating electric power. This study is most essential and will be useful for wind prompt regions.
